Hello Maria. First you want to explain to us why you chose to study at Liverpool University and specifically Actuarial Mathematics ;
From a young age I loved math and later statistics. I remember at school the counselor urging me to choose Actuarial Mathematics, as it was the ideal study for me.
I was looking for it and it was exactly what I wanted because an Actuarial uses mathematical, statistical and economic theory to solve real business problems, which usually involve the risk and uncertainty of side effects.
My course is rare , special and not available at many universities in England. So from a very small list of universities to choose from. I remember as soon as I did my research on Liverpool I was thrilled, as it was number one for the friendliest city in England – a beautiful and compact city.
She had everything I needed as a student and especially the port of Albert Docks, which reminded me of our island.
How do you combine your studies in England with your participation as president of the Hellenic and Cypriot Society < / > of Liverpool ;
My last year of study requires a lot of reading and hard work , but always with an organized program everything is done.
In addition, I had the help of last year’s committee, which guided me and thus made it easier for me to adjust to this position.
What does a student who wants to study in England need to do before starting their studies? How did you move?
First of all, someone who wants to study abroad should think that it will be a beautiful experience , that they will live something different from what they have seen so far. Still, the prospective student should have positive thinking, an open mind and a lot of appetite that will help him have an unforgettable student year.
At the same time, it would be good for him to read carefully all the information from his university and to be informed about the city he will stay in and how he will get there.
Fresher ‘ s Week is the week before the start of courses that the University organizes various activities, which is a perfect opportunity to make new friends. All the information online is available.
What sets you apart from Liverpool (university and region) that you think makes it unique? Why?
Liverpool is a city that is constantly evolving, changing and embracing new ideas . This city is famous for its port, for its success in football with Liverpool and Everton and is the birthplace of the Beatles .
Liverpool has a warm welcome, it is a lively and friendly city where you can easily make new friends from different countries . It’s a city that has all kinds of entertainment: from restaurants, bars, shops or whatever a student is looking for.
How do you plan to move after graduation? Are you thinking of pursuing a master’s degree or looking for a job in England?
After graduating with a degree in I’ll be looking for a job wherever I get the chance. I will try to find a job first in England , to gain more experience and other skills related to my profession.
Then I will return to Cyprus to be close to my family and work at the same time in what I love.
