About University of Pecs

The University of Pécs opened its doors in 1367, making it the first and oldest institution of its kind in Hungary. Our multi-campus institution includes 10 faculties and several research centers, offering a wide palette of 100+ programs taught in English and German that cover almost every aspect of modern academia, from medicine, natural sciences, engineering, art and political science to law, business and economics, every student can find the perfect program for themselves and their future careers! The University of Pécs with its 22 000 students, 1 600 lecturers and 10 faculties is one of the largest higher education institutions in Hungary and the centre of knowledge within the Transdanubian region.

The UP represents classical values, while the challenges of present and future times are being adapted successfully as well. Covering a wide range of educational areas, it reaches out far beyond the city of Pécs. The UP operates an independent faculty in Szekszárd and runs significant training programmes in the towns of Kaposvár, Szombathely and Zalaegerszeg.

The University of Pécs is a popular destination for international students because of the secure environment, high quality of teaching, reasonable tuition fees, low living costs and the huge international student community. Because the University is host of so many international students, we offer a large range of services and support programs which will assist you in adjusting to living and studying in a new country.

In order to ensure high international standards, strict quality control measures are applied. The Hungarian Accreditation Committee (HAC) conducts continuous institutional and program accreditation procedures and monitors the quality of educational activity for compliance with the European Standards and Guidelines. Hungarian higher education institutions and courses are accredited by HAC.

Campus life

Pécs is a beautiful place to study in. It is simultaneously a friendly place and a very active city, in which you can never be bored. You can be sure you will find everything here that a student could wish. You can experience the incredibly vivid student life day and night in this truly university city, full of bars, restaurants and cafés.

Accommodation

The University of Pécs has ten dormitories. They are located in quiet, residential areas of the city. The Faculties of the University as well as the city centre are easily accessible from the dormitories. Most of the dormitories have recently been renovated. The rooms are nicely furnished and contain bathrooms. Bedclothes are supplied. Rooms are offered on a reasonable price level: approximately EUR 130 per month.

Sports facilities

To maintain the level of intellectual achievements and endure daily pressure, it is necessary to have ample opportunity for recreation and regeneration. The main goal is to make room for sports and physical exercise in people’s lives so that they can be an integral part of their lifestyle later.

Sporting life at the University is coordinated by the TTK Sport Centre University of Pécs, which offers a wide range of sporting opportunities to the students and staff. The Centre organises various programmes that are attractive and accessible to everybody, irrespective of age, faculty or past training, which is a wonderful opportunity for recreation and regeneration.

The average tuition fees for students from the EU/EEA are 2,366,300 HUF per year, ranging from 5,600 HUF to 6,171,400 HUF.

Students who are citizens from outside the EU/EEA:

The average tuition fees for students from outside the EU/EEA are 2,466,800 HUF per year, ranging from 5,600 HUF to 6,171,400 HUF.

Tuition fees may vary for each study programme.

Application deadlines

Application deadlines at the University of Pécs can vary for each programme, but most are between 30 June and 31 July to begin your studies in the autumn.
