Introduction

VIA University College is Denmark’s largest and most international University College – also known as a university of applied sciences – with a total of 18,500 students of which 2,500 are international students from all over the world.

Their educational programmes cater to new as well as old professions, and belong to a long tradition of high-standard education in Denmark. Some of the programmes are more than 100 years old and have been a contributory factor in shaping the renowned Danish welfare society.

VIA University College covers the Central Denmark Region with a total of eight modern campuses, which all are characterised by a dynamic and interdisciplinary environment where students meet across programmes and faculties. At the campuses, students will have 24/7 access to the modern facilities, a variety of labs and workshops with the latest technology, recreational facilities, accommodation, cafés and lounge areas and in general become a part of a professional and international environment.

Accreditation

VIA is a certified holder of an ERASMUS+ charter. University is a member of the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA) and holds a Qualification Certificate from the People’s Republic of China. VIA is also Denmark’s only accredited institution by the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT).

Degree Programmes

VIA offers 17 AP and Bachelor’s degree programmes in English within the areas of business, construction, design and engineering. All of the programmes are developed in close cooperation with relevant industries. As a result, university graduates have unique career opportunities.

Research, development and entrepreneurship are integrated parts of the programmes. For several years, VIA has been named the most entrepreneurial university institution in Denmark with 25% of students participating in innovation activities.

With a Scandinavian approach to teaching, students will experience problem-based learning and group work, participate in research and innovation activities and gain hands-on experience through internships. University offers small-size classes where the students are expected to actively engage and exchange ideas. The teaching environment is informal and based on mutual respect with easy access to lecturers and staff.

The 17 English degree programmes are located at a total of three campuses in Aarhus, Herning and Horsens.

Aarhus:

There is no end to the possible ways of spending time in Aarhus. Whether you are interested in art, history or any kind of sports you will find that Aarhus has just what you are looking for.

Being the second largest city in Denmark, Aarhus has many shops, cafés, cinemas and everything else you need to have a good time with your friends. With many parks, forests and beaches, there are plenty of opportunities for going running, mountain biking, sailing or simply enjoying nature.

The city has a plenty of cultural offerings. One example is The Old Town which has been awarded no less than three stars by the Guide Michelin. Another example is ARoS, a world famous museum of modern art.

Herning

In the area around VIA Campus Herning, there is a great opportunity to experience art close-up.

Take for example a walk in De Geometriske Haver (The Geometrical Gardens) or climb the Danish/Swedish artist Ingvar Cronhmar’s large sculpture “Elia”.

The Herning region offers many magnificent and unique nature experiences. You can enjoy the heath, as far as the eye can see, walk in the woods, cycle, canoe and go for a swim in the beautiful lakes. With its many museums, sport clubs and beautiful surroundings, Herning is ready to give you fun experiences.

Horsens

Horsens is a vibrant community known for its cultural events, such as the Horsens Medieval Festival and the International Fair for Crime Fiction, as well as its international environment, as 10% of the population are internationals.

The city used to be known for the Horsens Prison, which was transformed in 2006 into the Fængslet

Museum – now a conference and music venue, where bands such as Metallica have performed.

The possibilities of extracurricular activities are nearly endless in Horsens. The city offers a wide range of hobby initiatives and sports clubs. Whether you wish to learn the Danish game of handball or play basketball, football, swimming, fitness, fishing, sailing or other sports, the clubs and associations of Horsens will welcome you.
